The Peace & Love Project helping independent artists grow in Liverpool

With The Peace & Love Project growing in Liverpool, Sam Millne spoke to Ellis and James from the project to learn more.

How did the Peace & Love Project start?

Ellis: It was an idea that just spawned out of nowhere really. We were just sat in the flat and I just went right and just brainstormed it.

James: Really it was like, how can we get some value out of our university course?

Ellis: And we began with something called Zoomusicology which never quite reached what we wanted it to really, and then we were just throwing things at the wall and see what stuck, and Peace and Love has stuck so far.

What are the benefits for artists?

Ellis: Mainly, it’s the equipment because we get the equipment through SAE and it’s no cost to us, of no cost to them.

And it’s experience for everyone, including ourselves, getting experience and setting up, and the artist we’re able to work.

Jamie: It gives them the platform, deosn’t it? You can make art but what good is art if no one sees it? That’s how we communicate.

To put a long story short, we’re building a platform for smaller students or artists of any kind – not even just music, anything – to have that platform and get their voice heard.

What would you like to be able to achieve with Peace & Love?

Ellis: Realistically, we want to become a mainstay in Liverpool at least, somewhere where we can host an event and they know it’s us, they know it’s peace and love just by looking at it.

And then, unrealistically, worldwide. you never know where it can go. A lot of things have came from nowhere and just took over the world, and hopefully Peace & Love can give people no matter where they are in the world.

We can give people a platform.

I want to build a community, one that’s full of peace and love, because it’s better than anything else.
