Allerton’s new single, Ethereal Light, is a musical journey that sways between psychedelia and reality.
Ethereal Light was released on July 14, 2023, and is the band’s third single – as well as being their longest to date.
Coming in at four minutes and 50 seconds, it was a bold move by Allerton, but it has paid off and at no point are you left waiting for the end.
Arguably the most impressive aspect of the track is how, despite its length, the song retains its sense of identity and has a clear flow throughout.
The song’s end adds to this by rounding off with similar acoustic tones as in the intro, giving the track a nice sense of direction.
At its heart, Ethereal Light is the culmination of fragments from a conversation at the start of a new relationship.
Harry from the band, Allerton, told Mersey Music: “Ethereal Light was written within 10 minutes of continuous flow.
“A musician friend of mine gave me his 12-string acoustic guitar just as the first lockdown hit and I ended up writing an entire album on it.
“Experimenting with a different tuning of double drop D, the song started as a driving folk ballad in the same vein as Stephen Stills.
“But, once I brought it to the band, it became a whole other beast.”
Beginning as something very different, Ethereal Light is a brilliant example of alternative rock that incorporates aspects of heavy and psychedelic music.
