Picks of the week

Toxic Love – Robyn Alexandra

Robyn Alexandra has been growing as an artist for sometime in the pubs and clubs of Liverpool, and it is with anticipation that she releases her debut single, Toxic Love.

While this may be her first published track, Robyn is a natural performer and she brings that to the song’s vocals, full of spirit and temerity.

The song question’s the writer’s past choices, as reflected by her comment: “I like to create honest music, no matter how beautiful or ugly that truth may be, so that every day people can really relate and see themselves in the narrative.”

Cream (album) – Toy Car

Full of energy and with a great reputation for their live performances, Toy Car’s debut album, Cream, is a piece of Liverpool alt-rock that is reminiscent of Wunderhorse’s early work.

The words are sung with vigour, the riffs are bold and the themes are raw.

New song, Fishes, in particular stands out as an anthem for rockers that you could envisage being belted out in front of huge crowds.

Rock My Love – Keyside

After it proving a hit with recent live audiences, Keyside have released the latest in a long line of brilliant singles, Rock My Love.

Following a verse underpinned by Max Gibson’s overdriven bass tones which add dramaticism to the introduction, Dani-Lee Parker’s chorus produces another catchy melody to get stuck in the listener’s head.

Like with many of Keyside’s tracks, the singer-songwriter tackles societal issues. Parker said:  “The character in the song has hit rock bottom, struggling with addiction and unemployed, but she finds a way to live again through a love of photography.”
