Picks of the week

Wildflowers in the Mystery (album) – Hushtones

The summer may be coming to an end, but Hushtones are ensuring their listeners are gleaning every last second of the season thanks to the tone of their new album.

Wildflowers in the Mystery, their second studio album, gives a nod to Wavertree’s park in its title and, with a blend of male and female voices complemented by acoustic guitar and piano, the band’s vibe is on brand with a Scouse sound that is refreshingly light.

Hushtones are a hard-working quintet who are consistently releasing creative, polished music. The album precedes a headline gig at District on October 4.

It’s Not Easy – It Always Rains

It’s Not Easy is arguably It Always Rains’ best-crafted piece of work yet.

Formed in late 2022, this is the group’s fourth single and is a statement of their songwriting ability.

A hauntingly simple guitar arpeggio, with plenty of chorus on, introduces the track before the vocals then reverberate and capture the listener without overpowering the melodic guitar riff that repeats throughout.

Thylacine – Toy Car

Fans of alternative indie rock need look no further than Toy Car for their latest obsession.

Newest single Thylacine forms part of Toy Car’s debut album, `Cream, which comes out on November 7.

The band show their skill as musicians in their latest song, mastering the art of immediate silence before bursting into sound to emphasise the peaks and troughs of Thylacine.
