Neil Noa’s Way We Were – Review in brief

By Ste Turnock

Way We Were, the latest single from Neil Noa, is nostalgia-bottled.

This one was a really trippy listen, a weird one but enjoyable track to breakdown.

From a city that musically has everything, Way We Were is hard to pigeonhole.

Who does this sound like? I’m not sure. However, it does make me feel.

It made me miss summer nights as the sun set, mates I haven’t seen in a while, memories I won’t get to live through again – and that’s far deeper than I was expecting.

Neil always delivers unbelievable vocals, but what stood out most to me was the introduction on the drums that almost contrast the rest of the song.

I love the way the other instruments drop in and out to flow nicely into the build-up to the fantastic chorus.

This song was written with producer Ben Harper at the Motor Museum. Harper isn’t just an incredibly talented producer, but he is also musician in his own right.

This is a combination that makes a lot of sense to me.
