Hurts When It’s Healing by Banners – Single Review & Chat

With the release of his new single, Hurts When It’s Healing, Mersey Music listened to the song and spoke to Banners about the emotionally-tinted track.

It Hurts When It’s Healing is direct, so direct.

With a quiet piano to assist, the song starts with a vivid description of the feelings experienced by someone struggling to come to terms with a heartbreak.

The track then begins to build, achieved through the rising piano accompanied by a stronger message of reassurance that these feelings won’t last forever.

The chorus is where the song really begins to kick off, repeating the words of the song title, ‘It hurts when it’s healing’.

From there, the song is more upbeat, the crashes are consistent and the post-chorus is a perfect example of Banners’ ability to bring rhythmic backings to the fore of his songs.

The Liverpool artist told Mersey Music: “Everybody heart gets broken sometimes.

“When it breaks, it feels like it’s never going to go back together again, but of course it will and you know that it will because it hurts and that’s how you know it’s still beating. “

Hurts When It’s Healing was actually recorded when making the artist’s recent album, All Back to Mine

Banners explained why it didn’t make the LP, though, saying: “I really liked it but it didn’t feel like it quite fit with the others, so I thought I’d keep it back to release on its own.

“This is the first of a few songs that are going to be part of the deluxe version of the album.”

It should be a deluxe album that offers something extra to fans who enjoyed his previous releases, such as the song that went viral during lockdown, Someone To You.

With nearly a billion streams on Spotify, the song was heard widely on TikTok during the coronavirus pandemic and provided some brief respite as fans often posted sunny skies and happy scenes with the song in the background.

While Hurts When It’s Healing doesn’t produce the same cheerful affection, it is a brilliantly-written musical composition in its own right.

For anyone who has gone through any kind of loss, heartbreak or disappointment, the song could catch you off guard but ultimately delivers a message of hope.
