Cast have once again taken centre stage as their new album, Love Is The Call, flies high in the album charts.
This isn’t a washed up Britpop band outstaying their welcome, this is Cast writing at a level arguably not heard since their 1999 album, Magic Hour.
Love Is The Call sounds like something straight out of the late 90s, with John Power going back to a style and recipe that worked so well the first time around.
There is also a definite sound closer to that of the La’s, The Rain That Falls is one such example, than there has been in the most recent Cast releases.

The album, recorded at the Space Mountain studios in Granada, Spain, came about after Power’s new burst of creativity received high praise from within Creation Records’ Alan McGee.
Produced by Youth, the LP begins with Bluebird, which takes a different approach to the rest of the album as an melancholic acoustic song.
The next track quickly picks up the pace with First Smile Ever – a personal favourite – harking back to old favourites while adding something new into the mix.
Guitarist Liam Tyson does an excellent at carrying the lead through the song and album, allowing his talent to shine but not protrude on Power’s melodies.
Meanwhile, Keith O’Neill’s drumming combined with Power’s bass helps bring the songs to life in the studio.
Up next for the band is a record shop tour before headline shows in six different cities, proceeded by supporting Liam Gallagher on 10 dates in the ex-Oasis frontman’s arena tour.
As always, fans will want the classics when they go to watch Cast, but there shouldn’t be any sighs when they announce their new music, that’s for sure.
