Dovegate are back with their second single, Contagious Lies, and it’s another bouncy release by the three-piece Liverpool band.
“Everybody’s on the run” is the line that sticks in your head.
Before the release, it was the lyric that stuck out most from the band’s live shows. There’s something ambiguous about the sentence that leaves it open to interpretation.
In this instance, Dovegate run with a political message about not believing everything you read and watch in the media.
The band’s frontman, Jon Cregeen, wrote the song during the coronavirus lockdown, when a push from certain sections of society began to see them cross the line from healthy sceptics to wild conspiracy-theory believers.
Some of Jon’s words help to explain why this shift happens and suggests the mainstream media’s agenda doesn’t help their own cause.
The tune itself is another bouncy one that never leaves you bored. A simple yet catchy bridge is once again a feature as are powerful chords that keep the track moving along.
“We’re really pleased with how this song has turned out after working with Jay (Gaugler) in the studio,” Dovegate said.
“We think the song shows another level to our songwriting and our progression overall as a band and recording artists.
“We hope this song can follow the success of our debut-release and believe people are really going to enjoy this song. It’s one that always feels good to play live, as it gets a good reaction from the crowd.”
Contagious Lies is a good addition to Dovegate’s growing repertoire of music that they continue to pull off as a three-piece. However, they are looking for a lead guitar player.
