Shadows by Paul O’Keefe – Single Review

Liverpool singer-songwriter Paul O’Keefe is back with another stunning addition to his repertoire, Shadows.

It is only a matter of time until Paul O’Keefe’s name is known across Merseyside for his songwriting.

O’Keefe’s ability to script emotional songs and tell stories is second to none. While the lyrics can be simplistic, this adds to the ease of empathising with the story’s protagonist.

Shadows is a continuation of his previous work. O’Keefe previous singles, His Story and Come Around, are equally as engaging melodically, but Shadows has something more.

The music has gone up a notch. Working with producer Ben Harper, the artist has managed to create a song that can fill the room instantly.

The track opens with the words: “I will keep on running, running through your mind.”

This song does exactly that, as the chorus manages to replay in your head as it builds with each rendition.

At first, the vocals are accompanied by just the piano of music therapist and teacher Lizzie Watts, who adds to O’Keefe’s songs magnificently during live performances.

As the single progresses, the track becomes increasingly layered and eventually O’Keefe releases his talent with backing vocals to carry the song of three minutes and 54 seconds to the end.

Before, you had to see Paul O’Keefe live to really get a sense of the big sound he and his backing band can produce.

Shadows, though, is a brilliant recreation of that live sound, and adds another coat to this single.
