Another week and another debut single as Sam Millne reviews Three Wishes (Genie! Genie!), the first release from Zennor…
Originally based in the West Country, the band now call Liverpool home and have burst onto the rock ‘n’ roll scene with their first single, that takes musical influence from the likes of Chuck Berry, the Rolling Stones and the Everly Brothers.
When writing Three Wishes, the band took inspiration from the Arabic story, Tales of a Thousand and One Nights, which Disney interpreted as the film Aladdin.

The song hits you straight from the off with an impactful riff before the drums kick in and later the lyrics.
It’s a relatively short track but not once do you find yourself switching off. From a personal perspective, the track has similarities to the American power pop band, Cheap Tricks.
While the song ends relatively abruptly, it does have the effect of leaving you wanting more.
Zennor are self-described as ‘cosmic rock ‘n’ roll, inspired by the swirling sounds of rock ‘n’ roll, country, blues and psychedelia, As heard in their debut release, many of their lyrics draw from mythology and folklore.
So much so that the band’s name was taken from the Cornish legend of The Mermaid of Zenno’ which is a village a stone’s throw away from where their drummer, Bailey Howson, is originally from.
