Paris to Marseille is the newly-released single from the Liverpool indie band, Keyside. Sam Millne listened to the song…

With a sound that seems to be the perfect blend of The Smiths and The La’s, Keyside are gaining new fans, and fast.

Their new single, Paris to Marseille, is the four-piece’s second release after two sold-out headline shows in recent months.

Lights Out, their first release, was popular among the Liverpool music scene, but the new song has the potential to go further.

As well as BBC Radio Merseyside, the track has already been played on Radio X.

Paris to Marseille is the symptom of the band’s cultural influences and, as usual with Keyside’s music, the base of the song is acoustic but the lead guitar and bass line help transform the song into a track that will wear out your repeat button.

Dan Parker is the frontman and said it “was written sometime in winter, 2021 – I had already written most of the lyrics apart from the verses.

“I remember walking by the Mersey at the time, which inspired the opening lyric ‘Across the water, moonlit reservoir.’”

The chorus seems so simple. While catchy, it also has an eerieness about it thanks to the tone of the lead guitar’s descending riff and Parker’s vocal qualities.

Paris to Marseille is just the second single from Keyside, a band that are only growing bigger.

They’re set to support The Cheap Thrills at the O2 Academy, Liverpool on Saturday, April 8.
