Reborn by The Cheap Thrills – Single Review

The Cheap Thrills’ long-anticipated new single didn’t disappoint. Sam Millne reviews Reborn

It’s been more than two years since The Cheap Thrills released Heart Attack. The group had just one headline gig last year, yet still won best band at Liverpool’s Sound Music Awards.

They’re back with a bang in 2023 and their first release is Reborn. It would be a bit far to say that the band has been ‘reborn,’ but there’s definitely more focus on the guitars and choruses in the new single.

An instant hit in my mind, the new release continues the anthemic nature of The Cheap Thrills’ growing catalogue. Reborn has already been played on BBC 6Music and Radio X, while the Independent has named the track on its new music playlist.

The song manages to maintain its beat while slowing down enough to make the words memorable before accelerating seamlessly into a catchy riff.

It’s often been a synthesizer for many of the group’s songs, but the band’s ease of transition between chorus and instrumental is maybe the biggest factor in making them unique, in my opinion.

Frontman Lewis Pike said: “Reborn dwells primarily on the past, exploring the idea that to be happy, we need to do the painful stuff sometimes.

Fresh starts, new beginnings, life.”

They were never really gone so it would be wrong to say ‘they’re back’, but, the indie group has certainly reminded everyone what talent they possess.
