Hoping Maybe by The K’s – Single Review

Hailing from Earlestown, The K’s are one of the North West’s most popular emerging rock ‘n’ roll groups.

Sam Millne reviews their latest single, ‘Hoping Maybe’…

Many of The K’s’ songs reflect on their younger days running around St Helens and living life; Hoping Maybe is a more emotional track though and you can hear it in singer Jamie Boyle’s voice.

The vocalist said: “Out of all of the tracks I’ve written, I think Hoping Maybe means the most to me.

“It adds another level of intimacy to our live show and there is something special in the way we connect with the crowd every single time we play it.”

Those live shows have been a crucial part of the group’s growing presence on the indie music scene.

Loyal fans have known the songs for a few years now and flock to listen to their singles when released. The latest track reached the top of the iTunes charts on its release day and is the first of five singles that will culminate in an album, scheduled for the end of 2023.

Hoping Maybe is a softer, more acoustic song in comparison to their others.

Known for their catchy lead riffs and relentless energy, the new track takes a step back and starts with an acoustic guitar before slowly building into a catchy but melodic chorus that’s repeated enough throughout the song to leave you satisfied but wanting more.

The lead guitar’s sound subtly changes as the song progresses so the track never stands still and, just after the halfway point, lead guitarist Ryan Breslin’s solo transitions the song into a slower bridge before building back up into a big finish, which brings together various elements previously heard in the song.

In the end, a return to just the acoustic guitar rounds the song off nicely and leaves you on a slightly sombre note, wanting to listen again to reach the highs.

In March, The K’s set off on an almost-sold-out tour across 12 UK venues and Dublin.
