Devil Bar Blues by Jack Gill – Single Review

Backed by his band, The Overlook, Jack Gill’s new single, Devil Bar Blues, is the latest and final track on his new EP.

Rocky guitar tones from the outset match the previous songs released by Gill, but the melody on this single takes more influence from blues and western music.

It’s possible they get lost at times beneath the heavy bass and lead, but the lyrics are befitting of the times we live in and reference enjoying what you can in life during uncertain periods.

Self-described as ‘an upbeat, bluesy, rock ‘n’ roll stomper with rumbling bass lines that make you want to move,’ it’s easy to imagine the track being played on the open cross-country roads of America or in a mid-western bar.

At 4 minutes 13 seconds, it’s Gill’s longest-produced release but consistent licks on the distorted lead guitar keep you drawn in.

You can see Jack Gill and The Overlook live this Saturday (19.11.2022) at The Jacaranda and Devil Bar Blues is available on all streaming platforms now.

There is also limited stock of the EP available to purchase in HMV.
