Ahead of BLCK UTAH’s new single release, ‘Rolla’, Sam Millne caught up their lead man, Jamie Muir…
When did you start playing music?
I come from a very musical family so I was always around it (music) growing up. I started as a drummer at 10-years-old or so, and then changed to guitar later in school.
I played at a local youth group growing up, that had very talented people around it, so I was surrounded by good influences.

Who’s your musical inspiration?
My inspiration, I think, comes from live music. As a performer, there is no better feeling than playing songs for my fans and hearing a whole room of people have a moment together singing my songs.
When did you start writing songs?
I started writing songs when I was 16, but I really found my voice and style at 22.
How would you describe your style?
My style is, at its core, a southern country singer-songwriter, complete with steel toes and a cowboy hat. Sonically I love the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bleachers and J Dilla. There is a lot of 80s in my sound for sure.
I got described once as ‘Sam Fender from Texas’ which has managed to stick.
What’s next?
The next date is November 5.
The new single ‘Rolla’ is released and the band is having a massive release show at the Kazimier Stockroom with some incredible support. It’s a completely independent show so it’s a great way to support local artists.
