When Jaime April and Jason Moon moved to the UK from Canada 10 years ago, they sought to bring with them a taste of their Canadiana style of music.
At first, they travelled around the country and parts of Europe performing, but four years ago they settled in Liverpool and now gig regularly around the North West.
After years of playing in different lineups and in different guises, the couple settled on the name April Moon during the first coronavirus lockdown.
Their genre, which combines elements of Americana, country, pop and rock, is an easy listen that will encourage your feet to tap in time with the rhythm of Moon’s kick bass drum – imagine Fleetwood Mac with a bit more country involved.
With seven singles and two albums to their name, the duo are prolific writers and The Lord Hath Taken Away will form part of their third album that’s set to be released later this year.
The single, which comes in at 2 minutes and 56 seconds, is definitely more inclined towards the country end of their spectrum.
With a traditional western rural Canadian feel, emphasised by Laura Macmillan’s violin accompaniment and the band’s relaxing harmonies, the lyrics capture a merry, prairie look at life’s hardships from the perspective of Moon’s grandmother, who grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada after the Great Depression.
You can hear them play the tune live at some of their upcoming appearances in the North West.
